Little Garden

This year I wanted to do something I've never done on my own before. Plant a little garden. While we don't have much room at our apt. and the land is not ours, we've found that we can start to grow just about anything in pots. Here are some of the things David, Caden and I have planted:
herbs-parsley, oregano, chives, basil, spearmint
cucumbers
snap peas
beans
sunflowers & wildflowers
and tomatoes in our Topsy-Turvey

It's great to have the opportunity to save some $, teach Caden about plants and get the satisfaction of keeping a plant alive but I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge the fact that it has a lot to do with Nana.

It's probably no surprise that I loved helping her in her garden when I lived there. Actually, most of the time I was a little bit afraid that I was pulling up the plants instead of the weeds. She always seemed so peaceful doing that work and did it with love for her family. I loved her rickety old wheelbarrow, her sun hat, those dinky garden shoes and the work dress/snap-front coat thing that accompanied her time in the sunshine. I can't say that I'll have any luck actually seeing a "crop" this year, I should have paid better attention. But I will say that I will think of her constantly while attending my little garden.
